Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has congratulated Benin’s newly sworn-in President Romuald Wadagni following his inauguration in Cotonou.

Wadagni, the former Finance Minister of Benin, was sworn in as President after winning the April 12 election, marking the start of his seven-year constitutional term.

The ceremony, held at the Congress Palace in Benin’s economic capital, brought together more than 6,000 guests, including former presidents Nicéphore Soglo and Thomas Boni Yayi, senior state officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and international dignitaries.

Before the President of the Constitutional Court, Dorothé Sossa, Wadagni pledged to serve and defend Benin throughout his tenure.

In a Facebook post after the ceremony, Forson said: “Congratulations to the newly inaugurated President of the Republic of Benin, H.E. Romuald Wadagni. It was a privilege to represent President Mahama at this historic inauguration ceremony in Cotonou.”

Forson attended the event on behalf of Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, joining other African leaders and senior officials at the high-profile inauguration.

Wadagni, who served as Benin’s finance minister for a decade, was widely regarded for his economic stewardship before transitioning to the presidency.

The inauguration drew broad regional attention, reflecting continued diplomatic engagement among West African states.
