Six students have been injured after a violent clash between local youth and students at the Offinso Technical Institute in the Ashanti Region, prompting school authorities to send Form One students home as tensions remain high.
The injured students — three boys and three girls — sustained various degrees of harm during the unrest, which also led to significant damage to school property, according to school sources.
The incident reportedly involved an attack on the school’s boys’ and girls’ dormitories, with local youth allegedly targeting the facilities.
Items including a gas oven, motorbikes and louvre blades were destroyed during the disturbance. Preliminary estimates place the cost of damage at around 30,000 Ghana cedis.
School management ordered Form One students to leave campus following the incident, as security concerns escalated.
Security has since been reinforced on the school premises, with police deployed to maintain order and prevent further escalation.
Authorities say the situation remains tense as investigations continue into what triggered the clash.
The Offinso South Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) is expected to meet to assess the incident and determine the next steps.
