President John Dramani Mahama has outlined plans to deepen diaspora participation in governance and strengthen Ghana’s economic engagement with the United Kingdom during a town hall meeting with members of the Ghanaian community in London.

The engagement formed part of activities linked to the Ghana UK Investment Summit aimed at expanding trade relations and attracting investment into Ghana.

President Mahama said ongoing constitutional review discussions include proposals to broaden the participation of Ghanaians living abroad in national governance structures.

He indicated that the reforms could make it possible for eligible dual citizens to serve as Members of Parliament and hold ministerial positions.

According to him, the move is intended to ensure that Ghanaians in the diaspora are fully integrated into national development efforts.

The president also highlighted Ghana’s economic outlook, saying the country is increasingly being recognised internationally for its recovery and reform efforts.

He further stressed the importance of regional integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), describing it as key to driving trade, investment, and economic growth across the continent.

President Mahama also acknowledged the contribution of the Ghanaian diaspora, noting that their investments, expertise, and networks continue to play an important role in national development.

The meeting formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen engagement with Ghanaians abroad and deepen partnerships in support of Ghana’s long-term development agenda.
