Ghana’s draw against Wales has provided a much-needed confidence boost ahead of theWorld Cup, but underlying structural issues remain unresolved, US-based analyst Hans Mensah has said.

Speaking on theAsaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (3 June), Mensah said the performance marked a clear improvement compared to recent outings.

“There is something to build on from this point,” he said, noting that the team showed better organisation and resilience.

The result also ended a run of five consecutive defeats, which Mensah described as significant for the squad’s psychological state.

“It does a lot of harm to your confidence… this will help them start believing again,” he said.

However, he cautioned that the improvement may have come too late, suggesting that earlier managerial changes could have yielded better results.

“If only the Ghana Football Association had made the call earlier, we probably would have moved beyond what we saw,” he said.

Mensah warned that defensive frailties remain a major concern, particularly against stronger opponents such as England.

“If you’re struggling against Wales, you have to be worried about facing Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford,” he said.

He added that while the performance was encouraging, expectations should remain realistic given the limited preparation time before the tournament.

“There is still so much work to do in very little time,” he noted.
