The German Embassy in Ghana and the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen economic cooperation, trade relations and skills development between the two countries.

The agreement is aimed at improving collaboration between Ghanaian and German businesses by creating a more structured framework for engagement, investment facilitation and private sector partnerships.

The signing comes at a time of growing bilateral trade between the two countries. Trade between Ghana and Germany reached €744.7 million in 2025, representing an 18 per cent increase compared to 2024.

The development reflects expanding commercial ties and a growing presence of German companies operating in Ghana across key sectors of the economy.

Under the MoU, both sides are expected to streamline processes that support Ghanaian businesses with German connections, improve access to investment opportunities and strengthen trade facilitation mechanisms.

The agreement also places emphasis on skills development, particularly for young people in Ghana.

Through initiatives such as Apprenticeship – Employment in Germany and the Dual Vocational Training programme under African Skills 4 Germany, more Ghanaian youth are expected to benefit from hands-on training and employment opportunities with German companies.

The programmes are designed to equip participants with technical and professional skills, while supporting long-term workforce development in both countries.

Stakeholders say the partnership will deepen not only economic cooperation but also people-to-people relations through education, training and cultural exchange.

The MoU is expected to contribute to broader efforts to enhance trade, attract investment and build a skilled workforce to support industrial growth in Ghana and Germany.
