Former Ghana head coach Otto Addo has commenced his duties as a member of FIFA’s Technical Study Group (TSG) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Addo is the only African representative on the influential 11-member panel tasked with analysing tactical trends throughout the tournament and helping to determine the winners of major individual awards.

The FIFA Technical Study Group plays a key role during World Cup competitions by providing detailed assessments of tactical developments, coaching innovations and team performances. Its findings contribute to FIFA’s technical reports and support the global development of the game.

The former Black Stars coach will work alongside notable football figures, including Tobin Heath of the United States, Jürgen Klinsmann of Germany, Jayne Ludlow of Wales, Michael O’Neill of Northern Ireland, Gilberto Silva of Brazil, Jon Dahl Tomasson of Denmark, Paulo Wanchope of Costa Rica, Aron Winter of the Netherlands and Pablo Zabaleta of Argentina.

FIFA Senior Football Expert Pascal Zuberbühler and Lead of Football Performance Insights Tom Gardner lead the panel. They are supported by a team of football analysts, data engineers, data scientists and performance analysts operating from Miami, Dallas and Manchester.

Addo’s appointment places him among some of football’s most respected minds and underscores FIFA’s confidence in his expertise and ability to evaluate performances at the highest level.

His inclusion in the Technical Study Group came weeks after his tenure as Ghana coach ended following disappointing friendly defeats to Austria and Germany in March.

Despite the criticism that followed those results, Addo successfully guided the Black Stars to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign in Group L, where they are set to face Panama, England and Croatia.
