The Ahafo Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Abraham Fletcher, has lauded the Secondary Education Reforms Programme implemented by the Mastercard Foundation and T-TEL, describing it as a major contributor to improved teaching and learning outcomes across the region.

According to him, the programme has enhanced the quality of education and should be sustained to ensure continued benefits for both teachers and students.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News at Acherensua during a stakeholder dialogue on sustaining the Secondary Education Reforms Programme, Mr Fletcher explained that one of the key components of the initiative is the Professional Learning Community (PLC), which enables teachers to meet regularly to share ideas and develop effective teaching methodologies.

He noted that the platform has helped teachers simplify complex topics, making lessons easier for students to understand.

Mr Fletcher added that the reforms have also improved teacher attendance and commitment in classrooms, as educators are increasingly motivated to apply the new skills and teaching approaches acquired through the programme.

On the students’ side, he said the introduction of the Values Learning Community (VLC) has created opportunities for learners to meet and engage in discussions on values and character development, helping them become responsible members of their communities.

“The reforms have positively impacted both teachers and students, and this is why the programme must be sustained,” he stated.

Speaking on behalf of traditional leaders in the region, the Akyempimhene of Acherensua, Nana Aduse Poku, commended the Mastercard Foundation and T-TEL for introducing the initiative.

He appealed to stakeholders to work together to sustain the programme even after support from the implementing partners comes to an end.

Nana Aduse Poku assured the Ghana Education Service of the commitment of traditional authorities in the region to support efforts aimed at maintaining and expanding the reforms.

“We will continue to support the GES to ensure the programme survives and keeps improving educational standards in our communities,” he said.

A student of Ola Girls Senior High School at Kenyasi No. 2, Blessing Akua Nyarko, also called on the government to invest financially in the programme to guarantee its sustainability.

She said the reforms have made teaching and learning more engaging, practical and attractive for students.

Miss Nyarko further urged the government to pay greater attention to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories in secondary schools across the region, stressing that improved ICT infrastructure would help sustain the gains made under the reforms programme.
