Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz will wait until the final medical assessment on matchday to determine whether goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi is fit enough to face England in their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L encounter.

Ati-Zigi picked up an injury during Ghana’s narrow 1-0 victory over Panama in their opening group fixture last week and has since been undergoing treatment while continuing to participate in portions of team training.

Although the shot-stopper has shown signs of improvement, Queiroz says a definitive decision will only be made after medical checks scheduled for the eve of the match.

“He [Lawrence Ati Zigi] is still receiving treatment. Today was much better,” he said.

“However, the decision will be made tomorrow after the final medical assessment,” Partey added.

Ati-Zigi, who started ahead of Benjamin Asare in Ghana’s tournament opener, is now racing against time to recover in time for Tuesday’s high-stakes showdown with the Three Lions.

Kick-off is set for 20:00 GMT, with Ghana targeting at least a point to strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout stages.

Queiroz’s side will wrap up their Group L fixtures against Croatia on June 27, as they continue their bid to reach the World Cup knockout phase for the first time since their historic quarter-final run in 2010.
