The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has dismissed media reports suggesting that the Auditor-General’s recent Performance Audit Report uncovered corruption, financial misappropriation or revenue losses at the Authority.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 20, the NPA said it had taken note of a media publication commenting on the Auditor-General’s Performance Audit Report on its operations covering the period from 2023 to 2025.

According to the Authority, the audit report does not establish any financial or revenue loss to the NPA.

“The Auditor-General’s report does not establish any financial loss or revenue loss to the National Petroleum Authority,” the statement said.

The NPA also rejected media descriptions of the report as evidence of “rot”, corruption or financial misappropriation, insisting that such claims do not reflect the actual findings of the Auditor-General.

It specifically accused The NewsCenta newspaper of failing to include management’s response to the audit findings in its publication.

“Media characterisations suggesting ‘rot’, corruption or financial misappropriation are not findings contained in the Auditor-General’s Performance Audit Report. The report by The NewsCenta Newspaper did not capture the Management response to the Audit findings,” the Authority stated.

The NPA reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and sound corporate governance, stressing that it remains dedicated to strengthening regulatory oversight in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.

It added that it would continue to engage constructively with the Ghana Audit Service and implement appropriate recommendations from the audit to improve operational efficiency and consumer protection.

The Authority further urged the public to rely only on its official communications for accurate information regarding the matter.
