The Minerals Commission and the Chinese Embassy in Ghana have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the mining sector, with discussions focused on investment, technology transfer and the fight against illegal mining.
The engagement took place during a courtesy call by the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Isaac Andrews Tandoh, on China’s Ambassador to Ghana, Cong Song.
According to the Commission, the meeting explored ways of expanding Chinese investment across Ghana’s minerals value chain while promoting sustainable mining practices and stronger institutional collaboration.
The two sides also discussed opportunities to enhance local content development, increase trade in mining-related goods and services, and support capacity building through the adoption of modern mining technologies.
Tandoh reiterated the Commission’s commitment to maintaining a transparent and investor-friendly regulatory environment that encourages responsible investment and sustainable mineral resource development.
A key focus of the discussions was the fight against illegal mining.
Ambassador Cong Song said supporting Ghana’s efforts to combat illegal mining remains one of his priorities, noting that the practice poses risks to the environment, legitimate investment and the long-term sustainability of the mining sector.
Tandoh welcomed the Ambassador’s commitment and said the Minerals Commission would continue collaborating with the Chinese Embassy and other stakeholders to promote lawful and responsible mining activities.
The meeting concluded with both parties expressing their commitment to strengthening Ghana–China cooperation to support sustainable growth and investment in the country’s mining industry.
