Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has urged Ghanaians living abroad to strengthen their ties with Ghana by investing in the country and contributing to its economic transformation.

She made the appeal during an engagement with members of the Ghanaian community in the United States at the residence of Ghana’s Ambassador to the US, Victor Emmanuel Smith.

The programme, themed “Ghanaians Meet the Vice President,” provided a platform for discussions on Ghana’s development agenda, the role of the diaspora, investment opportunities, and the collective responsibility of citizens to support national development.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang commended Ghanaians in the diaspora for their continued support for the country and their efforts to promote Ghana’s image abroad.

She acknowledged the sacrifices many Ghanaians make while living overseas, stressing that life in the diaspora is far from easy.

“They have not chosen to live away from home, and don’t think that where they live now is a perpetual vacation site. It’s a lot of sacrifice on their part too.”

She urged Ghanaians at home to value the contributions of relatives and friends living abroad.

“Whatever they give us, we must appreciate and take good care of it. We appreciate you, Ghanaians who live abroad, as one of the biggest drivers of our economy.”

The Vice President also encouraged members of the diaspora to invest in Ghana’s value-addition and industrialisation agenda.

She said the government is committed to reducing the export of raw materials and instead promoting industries that process the country’s natural resources to create jobs and boost economic growth.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang urged Ghanaians abroad to take advantage of emerging investment opportunities and partner with the government to support sustainable national development.
