GIPA urges Ghana Nuts to invest in shea plantations to sustain exports

The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) has called on Ghana Nuts Company Limited to invest in shea tree cultivation to secure a sustainable supply of raw materials for its expanding processing operations.

The call was made during GIPA’s Regional Investment Roadshow in the Bono East Region, where officials visited the company, a subsidiary of the OBA Group.

Ghana Nuts, established in 2001, is one of Ghana’s leading agricultural processing companies, producing edible oils and shea-based products for both local and international markets.

The company’s Commercial Manager, Kojo Obeng Aboagye, said the facility processes about 250 tonnes of shea nuts and 150 tonnes of soybeans daily.

He added that the company’s products, including high-grade shea butter and edible oils, are exported to markets in Europe, Southeast Asia, the Americas, Russia and other African countries.

However, GIPA Deputy Chief Executive Officer Abdul Razak Baba said sustaining the company’s growth will require deliberate investment in shea cultivation to guarantee long-term access to raw materials.

He encouraged Ghana Nuts to establish dedicated shea plantations, noting that such an investment would strengthen the company’s supply chain and support the sustainability of Ghana’s shea industry.

Baba said increasing investment in agricultural production and value addition remains critical to expanding Ghana’s role in global markets.

The visit formed part of GIPA’s efforts to identify investment opportunities, support local industries and promote value addition across the regions.
