Musician Kweku Flick has come under fire after suggesting that the support for his music has been louder from outside Ghana than from his own country.

The backlash followed a post in which the musician expressed gratitude to Tanzanian content creator Tenge Tenge for genuine love and support for his music.

Kweku Flick specifically pointed to his song ‘FRANGŌ’, insisting that the record is a big song and questioning why the response from outside Ghana appears stronger than the support he receives at home.

“Sometimes the support you expect from home comes from somewhere else. Tenge Tenge, my brother, thank you for the genuine love. The people of Ghana know FRANGŌ is a big record, but somehow the support from outside is louder than the support from home,” he tweeted.

His comments, however, did not sit well with some Ghanaian music fans, particularly those who believe they have consistently supported his career and promoted his work.

Some fans took to social media to remind the musician of previous posts in which they had celebrated his music, with some claiming that their efforts had received little or no acknowledgement from him.

Others accused Kweku Flick of being ungrateful and questioned why he appeared to place greater value on recognition when it came from a foreign personality.

The debate gained further attention after fellow Ghanaian musician Yaw Tog appeared to echo Kweku Flick’s sentiment, reminding his followers of the familiar saying that “a hero is not celebrated in his own home.”

While some fans agreed with the musicians and argued that Ghanaian artists often receive greater recognition after breaking into international spaces, others felt Kweku Flick’s comments unfairly dismissed the local audience that has supported him.
