Entertainment pundit Arnold Asamoah Baidoo believes that the National Democratic Congress government hasn’t treated creatives in the Ashanti Region fairly.
According to him, President John Dramani Mahama promised to build a national theatre for the Ashanti Region in 2013, indicating that funding has already been secured for the purpose.
It is therefore shocking that the government hasn’t been able to fulfil its promise even after coming back to power in 2024.
“Our folks in Kumasi have been quiet since Monday. For me, I think we are not treating them fairly at all. Do you know the time we made the promise of building a national theater in Kumasi?
The president made the promise in 2013 when the creatives, including Efua Sutherland, Obour, and others, visited him. He said money was secured from the Turkish Exim Bank. The president made this promise even in 2020, and in 2024 they added it to their manifesto. It is shocking that in 2026 the minister is saying that we need to focus on other things.
The assumption is that the NDC did thorough research before putting it into their manifesto. How come the Honourable will come and tell us that she’s now toured Kumasi and realized we have to focus on the old ones and forget about the new one?”
