A woman has joined a lawsuit against Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, alleging that its chatbot, Grok, was used by her stepfather to create thousands of sexually explicit images from a childhood photograph.

The plaintiff, identified in court documents as Jane Doe 4, is among those accusing xAI of failing to put adequate safeguards in place to prevent the misuse of its artificial intelligence technology.

According to the lawsuit, her stepfather used Grok to manipulate a photograph taken when she was 11 years old, generating more than 7,000 explicit images.

She further alleges that her stepfather died by suicide two days after the images were discovered during a law enforcement search.

The case builds on a lawsuit initially filed by three teenagers in Tennessee, who claim xAI failed to prevent Grok from being used to create sexually explicit images of real people, including minors.

The plaintiffs are seeking class-action status, arguing that the company did not implement sufficient measures to stop the chatbot from being exploited to generate child sexual abuse material.

The lawsuit adds to growing concerns over the misuse of generative artificial intelligence tools and increasing calls for technology companies to strengthen safeguards against the creation of exploitative content.

xAI had not publicly responded to the latest allegations at the time of publication.
