Vamos! Carlos Alcaraz is back. 

The Spaniard shared a video to officially announce his comeback at the New York Major.

And just when tennis fans thought Alcaraz confirming his participation in the US Open was the biggest news of the day, Serena Williams added to the excitement with her reaction.

“Ohhhhh ok. I like seeing this,” commented Williams on Alcaraz’s Instagram post. 

Alcaraz replied with two emojis, including an hourglass. That was all it took to fuel rumors of an Alcaraz-Williams duo in New York, especially since the US Open organizers have reserved a wild card for the Spaniard in the mixed doubles.

The US Open will mark a comeback for both stars. While Serena is returning to Flushing Meadows for the first time since her retirement four years ago, Alcaraz is returning after a four-month break due to a wrist injury. 

The Williams-Alcaraz Duo Speculation Has Been Cooking For Long

Williams and Alcaraz have kept tennis fans guessing with their social media interactions about this most-awaited pairing for months.

Earlier in July, the Spaniard kept posting videos on his social media to keep fans updated about his injury. In one such clip, Alcaraz was seen hitting both forehands and backhands, and preparing the serving motion without actually hitting it.

That video worried many former tennis stars about his comeback at the Cincinnati Open, which he eventually withdrew from. But Williams shared a message for Alcaraz, hinting at a possible partnership. 

Williams said: “They not ready”, presumably teasing the Spaniard’s level when he returns to competitive action.

The potential addition of Alcaraz and Williams would add even more glamour to the mixed doubles draw, which already features stars like Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka. Since Williams’ comeback on grass in June, the tennis world has eagerly awaited her return to her home tournament. Teaming up with Alcaraz would make the 23-time Major champion’s homecoming even more special.

Alcaraz competed alongside Emma Raducanu as a wildcard during the 2025 inaugural edition of the new format. The pair lost their opening match to Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper, the event’s top seeds.

Serena Williams Is A Huge Fan of Alcaraz

This is not the first time Williams has sent a positive message to Alcaraz. In a 2025 interview with ABC, Williams heaped praise on the Spaniard. She also weighed in on his potential to outdo Novak Djokovic’s 24 Grand Slam record. 

“He is doing incredible things. I’m an unconditional fan of Carlos. I always call him when he plays, to cheer him on… Carlos is very young, he has great rivals, but of course it’s possible. Records are meant to be broken,” said Williams. 

With the US Open approaching, the possibility of seeing Alcaraz and Serena Williams on the same side of the net has certainly added another layer of excitement to the tournament.
