Former Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has reflected on his enduring World Cup legacy, offering a challenge to the next generation of Black Stars to surpass his landmark achievements on football’s biggest stage.

Gyan holds the distinction of being Africa’s all-time leading scorer at the FIFA World Cup, with six goals—a record that has symbolized continental excellence since his last tournament appearance.

Yet, rather than cling to the accolade, the former Black Stars captain is encouraging young Ghanaian talents to aim even higher.

“For me, records are set to be broken. So, personally, I count myself lucky to be at that level, to score six goals in World Cup history. The only African to score six goals in World Cup history,” he said.

“And yes, the record is there to be broken. So I wish this new generation well, to perform so well. One might come up and break the record,” he added.

Gyan’s World Cup journey, from Germany 2006 to Brazil 2014, remains one of the most prolific by any African forward.

His goals were more than statistics; they were moments that carried the hopes of a nation, from decisive group-stage strikes to pivotal contributions during Ghana’s historic quarter-final run in 2010.
