The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), widely known as “Mahama Care”, has begun training healthcare professionals at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital as part of efforts to digitise patient enrolment and improve access to medical support.

The exercise forms part of the rollout of the GMTFcare platform, a digital system designed to strengthen coordination between healthcare providers and the Fund while enhancing service delivery for patients.

Officials say the initiative is expected to simplify processes for accessing medical assistance, particularly for individuals requiring long-term care, by reducing delays and improving data management across facilities.

Administrator of the Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, is leading the implementation on the ground, working with a technical team to oversee the transition and ensure the system is effectively deployed.

The training programme is focused on equipping frontline health workers with practical skills to register patients onto the platform, capture accurate data and manage records more efficiently.

At the same time, technical teams are installing the necessary infrastructure to support real-time data processing, including claims verification and patient tracking, which are expected to improve transparency and speed in delivering care.

The GMTFcare system is being introduced as part of broader efforts to modernise healthcare delivery in Ghana, with particular attention to improving support for patients living with chronic non-communicable diseases.

Stakeholders say beyond the technological upgrade, the initiative is aimed at making healthcare more responsive and patient-centred, while restoring confidence in the delivery of medical support services.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund is expected to extend the rollout to other health facilities nationwide as it scales up operations to improve access to quality healthcare.
