Ghana’s Sports Minister Kofi Adams has challenged newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz to translate individual talent into consistent results ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Queiroz, unveiled in April to replace Otto Addo, inherits a side struggling for form despite boasting several players excelling at club level across Europe. The Ghana national football team are currently on a four-match losing streak.

Speaking to SoccerChat, Adams questioned the disconnect between club and country performances, singling out key players such as Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus.

“Why would we have Antoine Semenyo in our team, and when he goes to his club side he performs very well, but when he comes to the national team, he’s not able to play effectively?” Adams said.

“Kudus plays well for his club but at the national team, he sometimes struggles to have that kind of flair. So the new coach has work to do to make these talents achieve results.”

Semenyo has been prolific this season, registering 20 goals and six assists across competitions, while Kudus contributed nine goals for Tottenham Hotspur before being sidelined by injury since January.

Queiroz has already signalled a merit-based approach, insisting only “deserving players” will earn call-ups as he prepares to name his final squad by June 1 for the expanded 48-team tournament.

Ghana will face Mexico national football team on May 22 and Wales national football team on June 2 in preparatory fixtures.

Drawn in Group L alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team and Panama national football team, the Black Stars are chasing a first World Cup knockout-stage appearance since 2010.
