Gov’t settles $700m Eurobond obligation

The Government of Ghana has fully paid off a US$700 million Eurobond obligation earlier than required.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the payment was completed on Thursday, July 2, 2026. It included US$525.2 million in principal and US$174.8 million in interest.

This latest settlement brings Ghana’s total repayments to Eurobond holders to US$2.1 billion since January 2025, as part of the country’s Eurobond Debt Exchange Programme.

The Ministry emphasized that the repayment was made through the government’s planned financing arrangements and did not put any undue strain on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

“This payment further reduces Ghana’s external debt burden and boosts investor confidence in our ongoing fiscal and macroeconomic reforms,” the Ministry noted.

They added that meeting the obligation ahead of schedule demonstrates the government’s strong commitment to prudent debt management and macroeconomic stability as the country continues its economic recovery efforts.

The move comes as Ghana works to rebuild trust with international investors following the successful completion of its external debt restructuring and progress under the IMF’s Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI).

The Ministry of Finance reaffirmed its dedication to sound public financial management, ensuring timely debt servicing while protecting fiscal sustainability.

It also thanked Ghanaians for their patience, support, and continued confidence in the government’s efforts to restore economic stability and market trust.
