Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has confirmed that he has fully recovered from injury and is ready to return to the national team ahead of Ghana’s upcoming international assignments.
The experienced centre-back missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup after arriving at Ghana’s camp with a minor injury.
Further medical assessments ruled him out of the tournament in North America, denying him the opportunity to represent the Black Stars at football’s biggest stage.
Djiku’s absence was a major blow to Ghana, with Derrick Luckassen brought in as his replacement in the squad for the global competition.
Now back to full fitness, the 27-year-old says he feels strong, motivated and committed to giving his best whenever he is called up to represent the country.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association, Djiku said he still has much to offer the national team while embracing his responsibility as one of the senior members of the squad.
“I try to give the best of myself and show them what I can do, but maybe one time I will not be like I am now, and it will be the moment to stop. But for now, I feel very good; I feel happy,” he said.
The defender also stressed the importance of guiding younger players emerging within the national setup.
“I try to give my experience to the young people who are coming, and then we will see year by year, competition after competition,” Djiku added.
With his recovery complete, Djiku is expected to return to the Black Stars squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this year, providing a timely boost to Ghana’s defence as the team begins its qualification campaign.
